October 1 Feelings Vs Facts? At 4seas Nimman – 6pm until 8pm Live discussion for locals, expats and visitors - Regardless of whether you lean more into feelings or facts, finding the right balance is an ongoing dance for most people. For this Wednesday Night’s Discussion, we’ll be looking at the nuances of where each of us land on the question. Some example prompts for the evening: 1. is it dangerous to live in a world where feelings are deemed—consciously or unconsciously—more important than facts? 2. Are “facts” actually neutral, or do they arrive carrying more human bias than we usually acknowledge? 3. Can our emotions give us access to truths that facts alone can’t reveal? 4. Are feelings potentially just another kind of fact—a type of ‘knowing’ emanating from our individual internal worlds? https://www.facebook.com/events/1803194946957547

October 4 Socrates Café at The Hideaway Café & Restaurant – 12 noon until 3pm - Chiang Mai is a city of contrasts. Many of us came here as visitors, fell in love with the mountains, temples, and charm—and stayed. Yet, living in a tourist town comes with an unavoidable paradox: You may not want to live in a tourist town, but you still want to be a tourist. In this Socrates Café, we’ll explore the tensions of two worlds colliding: Tourism as a lifeline of Chiang Mai’s economy vs. the burden it places on local life. / Is modern tourism a form of soft colonialism—bringing in money while reshaping culture and priorities? / Digital nomads often claim they want to “contribute to the local economy”—but how real is this contribution, and who truly benefits? Can locals, expats, and visitors find a sustainable way to coexist without eroding the city’s identity? This is not a debate, but a philosophical circle of questioning in the spirit of Socrates Café: we’ll sit together, raise deep questions, and reflect on what this paradox means for each of us. https://www.meetup.com/socrates-cafe-chiang-mai/events/310710940/?
